Queer Cinema night at The Library House

Posted in events, Uncategorized on November 29, 2008 by cHe0

For the first of our Queer Cinema nights we’ll be showing Scott Treleaven’s The Salivation Army:

The Salivation Army is a group of friends, a queer cult, a pack of wolves and sex-crazed hyenas….

Three friends with deeply personal agendas to destroy fascism, classicism, racism and sexism, decide to start a zine, sharing their beliefs and views of the world. However, while meant as a subversive half-joke, some people begin to take the Salivation Army a little too seriously…8010jpeg

Equal parts dogma, anarchy, SM fantasy and practical joke, The Salivation Army is creepy, disturbing, honest and ultimately poignant.

Friday 5th December 8pm

Hopefully, Friday 8pm will be our regular slot for Queer Film nights! pass the word!

Knitting and Sewing Circle- Library House Autonomous Space

Our first KASC event will be on Sunday 7th of December from 3pm, with the intention of a regular monthly slot. Please join us to learn or share skills in · Woolcrafts: Knitting and crochet · Mending: darning, patching, sewing and reparative embroidery Everyone over the age of 8 is welcome to drop in. It would be great if you could bring knitting needles, yarn, or a handknitted garment to recycle. These can often be found in charity shops for next to nothing. Likewise bits of fabric and sewing equipment to practice with. We have a sewing machine :) Books or photocopies with clear illustrations would also be useful. Expect tea, lively discussion, and maybe even biscuits.

After a great week end of Free School at the Library House (a fantastic theatre of the oppressed workshop on saturday and some very stimulating discussions on the sunday!), a new week is starting at the library house.

Wednesday is our regular Cafe Marie (6pm) with Film screening organised by Cinema Libre at around 8pm. see the program for today 26th Nov.

Thursday 27th Nov, Capoeira lesson, but watch out, this will be at 7pm, not 6pm.

Saturday 29th Nov is the Buy Nothing Day. Meet at the library house at 11am to go in the streets for the buy nothing day. We’re planning on giving free vegetables in front of supermarkets, having a free shop, handing out leaflets. Probably on bikes and trailers to be mobile! If you fancy doing some skipping (we need veggies for the action!) meet at the Library House on Friday 8am! Its great fun and very empowering.

surplus2Surplus: Terrorized Into Being Consumers is a 2003 Swedish documentary film on consumerism and globalization, created by director Erik Gandini and editor Johan Söderberg. It looks at the arguments for capitalism and technology, such as greater efficiency, more time and less work, and argues that these are not being fulfilled.

One of the coolest documentaries on consumerism you will ever see!!

CAFE start at 6pm as usual

‘SURPLUS’ start at 7.30pm
