*MAYDAY MAYDAY MASS STREET PARTY*
http://www.smashedo.org.uk/mayday-09.htm
For centuries Mayday has brought people together and out onto the streets.
People danced for the coming summer and the fertility of the crops. People marched in remembrance and solidarity with their fellow workers around the world. People gathered in their cities to fight against global capital and exploitation.
Smash EDO invites you to a celebration of all these aspects of Mayday.
In Iraq, Afghanistan and Palestine there are people who will never plant another seed, work in safety or control what they produce. These are the people whose lives have been destroyed by war and occupation whose pain is transferred into profit by the arms trade. The war machine can only exist through the demands of international capital and the greed of industry. There has been a long vibrant campaign to stop these war profiteers in the city of Brighton, come and be part of it…
Come dance, fight, and remember the victims of ITT.
Smash EDO has been campaigning for over four years to close down EDO MBM/ITT. EDO produce arms components which are used against civilians around the world. Smash EDO will not give up until we close the factory down. Last year hundreds of people from around the country came to the ‘Carnival Against the Arms Trade’ and ‘Shut ITT’ demonstrations. Since then a network of anti-militarist groups has begun working together against the war machine across the UK. If EDO closes it will send shockwaves through the UK arms industry. We want this to be the biggest show of force yet against EDO.

World Day for Animals in Laboratories – 25th

Posted in events on April 21, 2009 by cHe0

Meeting from 12 noon, Reformer’s Tree, near Speakers’ Corner (nearest Tube: Marble Arch)

To mark World Day for Animals in Laboratories, campaigners from all over the UK and beyond will be gathering in London on April 25 to call for an end to animal experiments. Following a march from Hyde Park through the centre of London, where we intend to take the anti-vivisection message to large numbers of shoppers, tourists and residents, we will then hold a rally with information stalls and food at Whitehall Place, just off Whitehall, near Trafalgar Square to protest against the government’s pro-vivisection policies.

**Save Lambeth Women’s Project!**
The Lambeth Women’s Project is facing a new threat of closure – as Lambeth Council have told them they want to give their building at 166a Stockwell Road in Brixton to the neighbouring school. Please help stop this from
happening!
There are a number of ways in which you can help:
1. Sign the petition:
http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/lambethwomen/index.html
2. If you live in the borough of Lambeth, please write to your local MPs and councillors to ask them to stop the council from closing LWP:
Councillor Rachel Heywood rheywood@lambeth.gov.uk
Kate Hoey MP hoeyk@parliament.uk
Tessa Jowell MP jowellt@parliament.uk
3. Send a statement of support, memories of LWP or ideas for how you would like to use LWP in the future to: savelambethwomensproject@gmail.com.
-Some more info about Lambeth Women’s Project-
There has been a Women’s Project at 166A Stockwell Road for 30 years now. The project has served countless women from Lambeth and the rest of London. We do not intend to let this legacy die now. We applaud Lambeth council for
the recent unveiling of the Bronze Women statue just minutes away from our building but are concerned that she will become a monument to the needless loss of a women?s service in the borough.
Lambeth Women’s Project proposes that Lambeth council leases the building they have been existing in for the last 30 years to them formally for a period of 5 years in order for the project to prove that they can exist as a successful, autonomous space that serves its local community. Our current service has been hindered by building problems, a flood and a lack of clear status with the council. We would like to clarify this situation and show
the council exactly what a diverse, useful, dynamic and needed space LWP really is and can be.
These are just some of the groups that have a long standing relationship with LWP:  Muslim Sisters Jammat, Lambeth Women?s Aid, Lambeth Childminders, Black Deaf Sistahs? Group, The Eritrean Women?s Group, Hi Tea, Lambeth Young
Women?s Service, Girls Rock! UK, Remembering Olive Morris Collective, Feminist Activist Forum, Women Asylum Seekers Together, Urban Inclusion, Lambeth Archive, The Feminist Library.
PLEASE ACT URGENTLY TO HELP SAVE THIS UNIQUE AND MUCH-VALUED PROJECT!!

**Anarchist Movement Conference 2009**
Anarchist Movement Conference 2009 will happen at Queen Mary & Westfield College on Saturday June 6th and Sunday June 7th, 2009. The space will include 20 rooms and a large hall as well as a creche for both days. It is a chance to put our ideas on the table and rebuild ourselves. The barriers that exist need to be broken down, the experiences and ideas of those involved in anarchist politics need to be shared, discussed, critiqued and debated. The task is urgent, practical and necessary – are we as a movement mature enough to face the challenge?
www.conference09.org.uk
Please set aside 20minutes to register. Download the form at http://www.conference09.org.uk/register.html
If you are in a group in London PLEASE put this on your agenda at your next meeting. It is important that we see this as a part of what we are ALL doing. Its our movement, its our conference.
You can also register at Freedom Bookshop. Or email registrations@conferecen09.org.uk for more assistance
