ACCESS CODES (building accessibility for disabled people)

This is the Access Codes elaborated by Sisters Against Disablement. It includes a number of items that are used to describe at best the accessibility of The Library House building for disabled people. If you have any comment, don’t hesitate to contact us!

1. PARKING:
Free parking streets around the house. Possibility to park less than 100m away.

2. PUBLIC TRANSPORT:
Nearest bus: P5 (stop less that 200m away)
Other buses on Brixton road (“Loughborough road” stop at more than 500m: 3/N3, 59, 133/N133, 159/N159, 415)
Tube station: Brixton/Oval/Stockwell (maybe a mile?)
Rail Station: Loughborough Junction (half a mile?)

3. ENTRANCES:
Gate on the street, then a 20m path on a small steep, with a 5-step stairs or wheelchair access. Building entrance is on ground level.

4. DOORS:
Front door: 84 cm. Opening inwards. not very heavy. one shallow step with no handrail on the outside of the door, and a mini step with no handrail on the inside of the door.
Entrance Hall door: 97cm. Opening inwards. light.
Freeshop/Screening room door: 78cm. Opening inwards. light
Front room door: 83cm. Opening inwards. light
Dining/cafe room door: 83cm. Opening inwards. light
Kitchen door: 60cm. no actual door.

5. INSIDE BUILDING:
Social Center is only on the ground floor. no steps, only a mini-step right after the front door. no handrail.

6. LIFT:
No need for Lift, only a ground floor.

7. TOILETS:
Toilets entrance = 73cm. No actual door (just a curtain). Washbasin. no rails

8. DIMENSIONS OF PREMISES:
All the rooms are less than 10m from the entrance

9. FLOOR SURFACES:
No slippery. Wooden floor except entrance hall (tiles) where there is also a mini-step right after the front door.

10. LIGHTING:
Flexible (movable lamps)

11. SEATING:
All sorts: chairs, foldable chairs, stools (standard and high), armchair, sofas, chaise lounge, pouffes…

12. HEATING:
Variable: generally a bit cold in winter but heaters easily available to heat up room quickly if needed.

13. PARTICIPATION:
Generally no sign language interpreters; no braille; no finger spelling; no lip-speakers…

14. HELPERS:
we can meet you at the gate or bus stops to offer help anytime. call 07985353503

15. CRECHE:
Usually no creche on the premises, unless special arrangements for special events (hasn’t happened yet).

16. FOOD AND DRINK:
Food and drinks available on specific events. The food provided for the space users is vegan (although some residents are vegan, some are vegetarian and some are omnivorous).

17. SMOKING:
Please not when and where people eat. Not allowed in the kitchen.

18. STRUCTURE OF ACTIVITIES:
Activities varies, so their structure. See the website for the activities. Dont hesitate to contact us for any requirement.

The space is animal friendly, except the kitchen.
